New House!

We got our new house on Monday evening, but I stayed at Jamie's that night b/c I didn't feel like setting everything up after in-service. Now the place is starting to look more like a place where we can live. We don't have much living room furniture, but we'll remedy that once we get our first paycheck.

As for making the place livable, we spent most of Wednesday evening scrubbing as much as we could. The bus shop did a good job of finishing the floors and renovating the bathroom, but there was a lot of grime that needed to be cleaned in the kitchen, linen closet, and basement. LeAnn took the kitchen. Christine took the linen closet, and I took the basement. I finished phase 2 of cleaning the basement tonight at 11 PM. It's going to be a 5 phase project. It's a surprisingly large basement, and not surprisingly very dirty.

I'll keep you posted on the new things happening in SoDak!

Boredom ensues...

I spent the weekend with my sister and best friends Sarah and Koren. We stayed at my grandmother's house. We were originally going to go kayaking on Saturday, but it didn't pan out. Instead we hung out at the park near my grandmother's house and then went to see Inception. These were both great decisions. The park was relaxing and beautiful. Inception was a darn good movie. It was a little on the long side but definitely worth it.

I spent last night at my dad's house. It was nice. I got to tell my dad and step-mom about what Phoenix was like and what South Dakota will be like. Now I'm back at my house watching Knocked Up. I don't have much to do until Friday when I have to pack up my moving truck. It's nice to have a little bit of boring before life really picks up.

Moving to SoDak

It's been a while. If you've read this blog before, I think I may have warned that this could happen. I'm hoping that my new vocation will inspire me to blog more.

I've joined Teach For America * South Dakota. I am going to be teaching at Todd County Middle School as a 6th grade science teacher on the Rosebud Reservation. I've been training in Phoenix all summer. It was a hectic 5 weeks, but totally worth it. The SoDak crew is definitely the best corps in TFA.

Now I'm home for a couple weeks before I move to South Dakota. I have most of my stuff packed up, but I have a lot of little things I need to work on getting together or getting rid of. I need some motivation for that though. I've just been relaxing and doing some mild gardening. Unfortunately I forgot my knitting in Omaha, NE. In a couple weeks I'll be updating my other blog with a new WIP entrelac scarf.

I'll post again soon with updates on the move out to South Dakota!
